Early life and Education
Rachel’s full name is Rachel Anne Maddow and she was born on 1st April, 1973. Her father was a former United States Air Force Captain who later worked as a lawyer and her mother was a school program administrator. She grew up in a Catholic environment and her mother mentioned it to be an environment that was very conservative. Maddow was good at sports in her high school days. She was a good player of basketball, volleyball and swimming.
She is a Stanford graduate and she got her degree in public policy in 1994. With a promising degree at hand, Rachel Maddow was all set to peruse her career. She got a fellowship with the name John Gardener Fellowship. After that she got a scholarship and went to peruse higher studies from Oxford. After that, she got her DPhil Doctor of Philosophy degree in politics at the University of Oxford. She worked on the thesis related to healthcare and HIVAIDS under the supervisor Lucia Zedner
Career and Awards
Maddow started her career as a broadcaster on Radio when she won the contest of a new on-air host. The contest was conducted by WRNX in Massachusetts. Once she won the contest, she was hired as a morning co –host for their show. In June 2005, Rachel became a permanent member of MSNBC’s show Tucker and three years later she became a permanent political analyst. Later, she was also a regular member of the panel on the show: Race for the White House.
In the show with Kieth Olbermann, Maddow contributed frequently for which Olbermann complimented. Later he began to force her to start her own show at MSNBC. Olbermann was finally able to convince Phil Griffin about Rachel Maddow’s show and so a time slot was created for her. And then Rachel Maddow’s own Show began in 2008.
Maddow has been nominated for a number of awards over the span of her career so far. In 2017, 2011 she was awarded the Emmy award in outstanding performance in interviews and discussions along with Analysis. In 2009, she was presented with a Gracie Award by American Women in Radio and Television. In 2012, she was given a John Steinbeck Award.
She is the author of Drift: The Unmooring of American Military Power, which topped the New York’s Bestseller list. Maddow loves to exercise, sleep and go fishing.
