The real name of Notorious B.I.G was Christopher George Latore Wallace and his stage names were Biggie or Biggie Smalls or The Notorious B.I.G. He was born on 21st of May in 1972 and died on March 9, 1997. Basically he was a famous American rapper and according to the billboard ranking, he holds the position among the ten most famous rappers of all times. He was one of those very few rappers of America who earned so much name and fame even after death. His albums released after death also made great success.
Wallace was born in the St. Mary’s hospital of Brooklyn, a part of New York City in 1972. He was the only child of his parents who were Jamaican in origin. His mother Voletta Wallace was a teacher in preschool while his father Selwyn George Latore was a politician as well as a welder. Wallace was only two years old when his father left the family and he was raised by his mother as a single parent. She had to work two jobs in order to raise him. They lived and grew up near the border of Bedford-Stuyvesant in Brooklyn.
Wallace started the initial schooling at the Queen of All Saints Middle School, where he excelled in the class and won many awards as the English student. It was there at the school that he also got the nickname of BIG because he was overweight and huge in size as compared to other students. However he got into bad company at school and went into the business of drugs when he was only 12 years old. His mother was busy in two jobs and mostly remained away from home. That is why she did not know of her son’s activities of drug dealing until he continued it till he was an adult.
Later on Wallace was shifted to the George Westinghouse Career and Technical Education High School. This was the place where many other future rappers also attended and studied. At 17 years of age he dropped out of school and got involved in crime due to which he was also arrested in 1989 on charge of weapons and went on probation for five years. But in 1990 he was arrested again for violating the probation.
Wallace began his singing career as a rapper even when he was a teenager. Initially he used to entertain people on streets but after being released from jail he made the first ever tape under the name of Biggie Smalls. Although there was no serious intent involved in making the tape, yet it was promoted by the DJ of New York Mister Cee. Then his singing career firmally began and he went on producing music in the coming years.
He also had a daughter from his girlfriend named T’yanna. But he wanted her to study and supported by his drug selling business.
Death and Net Worth:
In March 1997 Wallace was killed by an unknown assassin in a drive by shooting while he was coming out of one of his shows. He was returning to his hotel from a promotion event of his music where he was shot by an unknown person. He had a net worth of $160 million.
