Misty Danielle Copeland is an African American ballet dancer who has a net worth of $500,000. She was born on 10th September 1982 in Kansas City, USA. Misty works for ABT (American Ballet Theatre) which among the top three companies in the USA regarding classical ballet companies. At the age of 33, the ballet dancer broke all the records and became the first ever African woman to be designated as ABT’s principal dancer.
The ballet dancer had a rough childhood. She started ballet dance at the age of 13, which is considered as an old age for joining a ballet academy. Most kids enter far earlier. However, she had a spark in herself and was incredibly talented. But by the time she turned 15, Misty had already won a number of awards and had professional offers at her doorstep.
Her mother was fighting a case in the court against the teachers of the ballet academy who were the custodial guardians of Misty. Early Life and Biography
Although Misty Copeland was born in Kansas City, she grew up in San Pedro, LA, California. She has a vibrant and diverse cultural background. Her father’s parents were African American and German American whereas her mother’s parents were African American and Italian American.
She has six siblings in total. Her mother married four times. Misty herself was the youngest of the four children her mother had from her second marriage. She also has two siblings each from her mother’s next two marriages.
Misty, with her other siblings, had to move from places to places because of her mother’s failed marriages. Between 1985-89, she lived in Bellflower, California due to her mother’s third marriage with Mr. Harold Brown who used to work in the sales department of the railway.
However, after the divorce, they moved to the San Pedro community in LA. They eventually lived with Misty’s another step-father and her mother’s fourth husband named Robert Dela Cerna. Misty attended went to the Point Fermin elementary school which was situated in the same locality.
