Having sold up to 1 million copies to date, Khia is a famous rapper who has not only made her name in the rapping industry but also she has become an overall media personality. She is a rapper, songwriter, record producer and media personality altogether. Her major breakthrough was the release of her single “My Neck, My Back (Lick It)”.

Early life

Khia was born on 8th November, 1970. Her full name is Khia Shamone Finch and she is from Philadelphia. Her family moved to Florida when she was 11 years of age. She went to Dowdell Middle School and later attended the Hillsborough High School from where she was expelled in grade 9.


She attended an alternative school. She had her first child in 1991 and moved to Hawaii in 1992. She had her second child there when her father was stationed in Hawaii. Before she came into rapping, she worked at Club XS in Florida as a bartender. Her mother died in 2001.

After her mother’s death, Khia came to music and became a rapper. She released her first album Thug Misses in the year 2002 with Dirty Down/Artemis Records. Her single My Neck, My Back was at number 42 on Hot 100 chart and was positioned at #12 on Hot Rap Tracks chart. It was reported that Khia wrote the song in 15 minutes. It was also featured on Fox Broadcastings’ soundtrack. In the year 2004, she appeared at a single of Trick Danny and Tampa Tony which was titled Jump On It. It was from Thug’s album Thug Matrimony: Married to the Streets.

Khia scheduled her 2nd album Street Preacher to be released in mid of 2003 and it was ready to be released, but it got shelved for some unknown reasons. That’s why she released her album ‘Gangstress’ to be her second album. The album did good business and later Khia worked with Janet Jackson on a single So Excited which topped the Hot Dance Club Play chart as the #1 single.

She worked on her third studio album with Big Cat Records. It released on 22nd July, 2008. Tampa’s Push-a-Key Productions produced the first single Be Your Lady. This album also featured Gucci Mane, the famous rapper. Later, her fourth album was released in 2010 and the lead single Been a Bad Gir showed a sensitive side of the artist. A few shots from the video were taken at New York by Clifton Bell.

Her album titled MotorMouf aka Khia Shamone. After the release of fourth album, Khia went on to promoting it. She mentioned in an interview of a website HipHopDX that in this album, more of her singing is also focused instead of all rapping.

Khia released her Latest You Deserve It video on YouTube and got many views and likes. She announced the release of her album cover Love Locs in 2014 through her social media accounts.
